Dr Maxton Pitcher MA MD BM BCh MRCP FRCP Consultant Gastroenterologist

Max was appointed to the staff at St Mark’s and Northwick Park in 1998 from Oxford, where he was Senior Registrar. He graduated in Medical Sciences from the University of Cambridge in 1985 and qualified in 1988 from the University of Oxford. His research on the gut microbiome and ulcerative colitis at The Medical Research Council Dunn Clinical Nutrition Centre won him a University prize for his MD Thesis in Cambridge in 1996. He was Chairman of Medicine at St Mark’s from 2007 to 2010 and was instrumental in expansion of the Consultant team.

Max sees general Gastroenterology and Hepatology outpatient referrals and patients with gastrointestinal cancer. The latter are managed in close collaboration with specialist surgical colleagues as part of the West London Cancer Network. He has an interest in streamlining and speeding up the process of patient specialist referral to investigation, diagnosis and treatment and modernising clinical care pathways.

His interests outside the hospital include golf, scuba diving and playing the violin in chamber ensembles and orchestras including the European Doctors Orchestra, of which he has been Concertmaster.
