Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Referrals
Any patients with suspected or known IBD may be referred to the St Mark’s IBD team. Patients with complex diseases, e.g. fistulising disease, dysplasia, stoma care, IBD refractory to medical treatment or IBD with surgical complications, should be referred to the specialist IBD team as outpatients or inpatient admission.

Urgent Cases
Please use secure email to send letter requesting an urgent appointment. The letter will be triaged, and an appointment offered according to the clinical need in accordance with IBD Standards. Alternatively, if you are a GP you may wish to contact our advanced nurse practitioner.
Inpatient Transfers
Please fax a referral letter to 02082354001 and discuss with the on-call St Mark’s IBD registrar or Fellow.
Outpatient Referrals from GPs
In line with the 2018 paper switch-off, please refer patients via ERS – St Mark’s Hospital – GI and Liver (Medicine and Surgery) – Upper GI incl. Dyspepsia – Referral Assessment Service.
Outpatient Referrals from other Hospitals or other Specialists

Please specify whether your patient might benefit from one of the specialist services: Adolescent, medical-surgical joint clinics (refractory UC, peri-anal Crohn’s, fistulising Crohn’s, strictures, dysplasia), new diagnosis clinic (within 6 months of referral).
