Consultant Colorectal Surgeon

Asha Senapati is a colorectal surgeon with a wide breath of experience, but her specific remit at St. Mark’s is to establish the Pilonidal Disease Centre.

Asha Senapati joined St Mark’s Consultant Staff in October 2018. She is a colorectal surgeon with a wide breath of experience, but her specific remit at St. Mark’s is to establish the Pilonidal Disease Centre.

Asha did her undergraduate training at Christian Medical College, Vellore, South India and her surgical training at St Thomas’s Hospital and St Mark’s Hospital at City Road.

She has been a consultant at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, since 1994 and has performed over a thousand pilonidal disease operations on patients from around the country and from abroad. She has written book chapters and lectured nationally and internationally on the subject. She has been involved with training and demonstrating in pilonidal surgery in addition to other aspects of colorectal surgery.

She ran a Basic Coloproctology course (M27 Course) for 18 years. She gave an Arris and Gale lecture on wound healing and was awarded Hospital Doctor of the Year in Portsmouth in 2013. She has published widely in peer review journals and has over 250 presentations, publications and invited lectures.

Asha was President of the Clinical Section and of the Section of Surgery of the Royal Society of Medicine. She has had several roles in the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland and was President in 2014.

Asha was a Trustee of the Wessex Cancer Trust for many years. She is Chairman of the Bowel Disease Research Foundation and is an Executive Councillor and member of the International Pilonidal Society. She is President Elect of the St. Mark’s Association.
