Psychological Medicine – Referral

The Psychological Medicine Unit currently are only able to accept referrals for patients who are currently under the care of St Mark’s Hospital. In all cases, patients will need to have a GI condition in order to be seen in the Psychological Medicine Unit. CCG/ICS approval for the referral is sought and needs to be confirmed via the patient’s GP. PMU follow a stepped care approach, and all patients should be referred to local long-term conditions IAPT services prior to referral into the PMU.

You can find your/patient’s local IAPT service here: https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health/find-a-psychological-therapies-service/find-your-gp.

The Psychological Medicine Unit is not an emergency service, and thus does not offer crisis support. If you or your patient requires support outside of office hours, please contact your GP, or attend A&E if an emergency.

The following link has advice on how to gain mental health support in an emergency, or out of office hours: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/mental-health-services/get-urgent-help-for-mental-health/
